Hydro-Electric Power

With all the ways in which scientists and researchers are trying to come up with ideas that will deplete our need for fossil fuels in cars, the most common idea that people are having is the use of Hydro-Electric power in cars. What exactly does this mean? This means using water and electricity in order to power cars. The idea of electric cars are not something that is new since there are many electric cars already being driven around. However, the downfall of these cars is that they still rely on gasoline in order to go long distances because the car simply cannot hold an electric charge for this long.

The idea of an Hydro-Electric car is by no means new news. In 1883, there was the first introduction of the all electric powered car and from then on in history there has always been those cars that tried to harness the concept much more effectively. However, no one has been extremely successfully in the concept. The main difference between those cars that use electricity to run and those that would use Hydro-Electric is that there would be no electric motors that would be used in order to move the car. This could mean that the days of only being able to go around twenty miles or so are gone. The hydro-electric car would use the power that is derived from hydrogen and electricity to move and one of the best benefits of this is that the car would give off even less greenhouse emissions than the current electric cars that we have since through the exhaust, the car will drop out water.

So what is stopping hydro-electricity from being the go to source in order to power cars? For one, the disadvantage that these cars give people is that the cost of using hydrogen in cars is a huge initial investment for companies to make in order to produce these kind of cars. Thus, the cost of this investment would be put onto the consumer. So the chances of people buying one of these high priced cars is a stretch. Secondly, and probably the biggest reason that people are not embracing the hydro-electric car is the method in which the hydro power is found. This power is received through the use of fossil fuels such as coal and nuclear power. So technically, trying to make this power is contributing to the amount of air pollution, hence it really defeats the purpose of finding a power source that does not rely on fossil fuels since it does. There is also the problem in having gas stations carrying the fuel for the future cars. It would mean gas stations having to completely redo their entire operations in order to carry the fuels, and not many are willing to do this when they do not know if the demand will be that high.

So can we expect hydro-electric to become mainstream in the future? The concept is one that people are constantly investigating, which means that more than likely there will be one car made with the technology in order to prove is effectiveness.
