Green Car Fuels: Hydrogen

With the news that the more we drive the more oil that we are using, and with oil supplies throughout the world slowly dwindling down, it has led the government to encourage automakers to come up with some other way in which vehicles can be powered. This was when the introduction of the ethanol powered vehicle became prominent, however, it never really took off as people had hoped. Thus, fast forward a few years later, and now we have the hydrogen powered car.

There are many benefits to the hydrogen powered car. For one it runs of a readily available source of turning water into electricity in order to power the car. Secondly, it produces no harmful byproducts into the atmosphere. It does produce some byproducts, however this is the equivalent to steam that a boiling pot of water gives off. Hence, the reason that the hydrogen fuel is such a great way to power vehicles.

So where are we on actually turning cars into using hydrogen power? There are many kits out there that will enable you to put a hydrogen fuel cell on your current vehicle, no matter the year of the vehicle. After installation, you can get more miles per gallon and use less fuel since it works to extend the gasoline in your tank. However, what most people want to know, is there a completely hydrogen powered car? As of right now, the idea of a hydrogen powered car is just an idea. Companies are able to produce those cars that are part hydrogen, however, rely upon gasoline as the main source of fuel, so while this is decreasing the amount of gasoline that people are using, it is not completely solving the problem.

Though hydrogen fuel seems to be an awesome concept, many professionals are a bit hesitant as to if the technology will really work. Plus, many are concerned with the effects that having a car powered on hydrogen would have on the engine after an extended period of time. Since there has been no real research done on this aspect of the hydrogen powered car. For example, many professionals state that they believe the use of hydrogen in cars would lead to the car breaking down over time since it is not utilizing gasoline. This has led many automakers to decide that in order for hydrogen truly to work there would have to be a complete makeover of the core components of the engine in a car.

Though hydrogen fuel may only seem like a dream at this point in time, all automakers are slowly making headway in the area. Most people would not be surprised if the first truly complete hydrogen fueled car came into the picture in as little as five years with all the advancements being made technology wise. While others in the automotive field say that the idea of having a complete hydrogen fueled car is not anywhere in the near future. However, when it does become fully available for every person to use, it is sure going to make a splash in the automotive world.
