Biomass Power
Everyday on the news, people are hearing about the low levels of oils that are being found, which is resulting in the high cost of gasoline. With this being known, people are wondering what is going to happen once the gasoline runs out, since it is not a renewable form of energy. This is where the government and researchers are pushing for more ways in which you can power a vehicle. There has been much in the news about biomass powers for cars, however, most people do not have any knowledge of what this is nor how it can benefit the world.
Biomass power is the use of other fuels that is derived from things other than oil. For example, the two most popular forms of biomass power is ethanol and biodiesel. These fuels are derived from those things that are found in nature, such as corn, soybeans, algae and so on. Basically, through the use of these fuels we can use those sources that can always be grown, which makes biomass power one that can never be depleted. This is a huge plus for the obstacles that we are facing in order to keep enough power to power our vehicles.
One of the biggest concerns with biomass power is how the production of these kinds of fuels are going to affect the demand of food since they do use items that many people eat. However, there has been much research done on this issue because no one wants to solve one problem only to create another bigger problem. The main thing that researchers point out to the public is that the crops that are used to make the biomass energy can be grown in areas that the same foods would not be grown because they would not be fitting to eat. It is important to point out that the types of soybeans and corn that are being used to make these fuels are not exactly the same as the type that we would use as food. Plus, researchers point out that there is an abundance of land in which can be used to grow these materials. The land that is being used to feed people, will remain unchanged should the use of biomass power become mainstream. So all in all, the effect that we would see on food would be nonexistent.
Another common question in regard to biomass energy is whether the energy that is used to convert these materials to energy is really helping us at all. However, technology has advanced in such as a way that biomass energy can be produced fairly easy and much more cost effective than what it takes to turn oil into gasoline. Meaning that the cost could be offset for citizens at the pump, a huge reason why people should be embracing the idea of alternative fuels.
There are many cars that can use biomass power that are on the roadway today, however this number will increase as more companies are producing these types of vehicles.
