Biogas Power
With all the time and attention of the government and numerous scientists being focused on finding alternative fuels to use in order to replace fossil fuels, there have been tons of introductions of what could be the main source of fuel in the future. One of these fuels is biogas power. What exactly is biogas power? Biogas is made from the waste that piles up in landfills. The materials are collected and then allowed to be placed in a air tight containment in which the gas will then be harnessed in order to power vehicles. There are other substances besides the landfill that can be used in order to develop biogas, and these include manure, sewage and green waste. One of the most interesting things is that biogas can be formed without people even meaning to, such as when the landfill is filled up after it is filled. The main components biogas is methane and carbon dioxide. However, there are other components such as hydrogen, nitrogen and so on.
In order to collect biogas, the landfills would need to have gas pipes underneath the landfill in which the gas would start to form because there is no oxygen getting to the bottom. In fact, this is already being used in today's times in order to have biogas fueling other aspects, besides cars. This goes to prove that it can be used and it can be harnessed into a fuel that can be used for power. However, can it be harnessed to be used in the automobile? This is the question that most people want an answer to.
The answer to this question is a definite yes since it has been done overseas. One man made the biogas from chicken manure on his farm and has been running his car off of the biogas ever since. The main aspect that he had to change in the car was to install a small chip on the carburetor in order to make the biogas work in the car. With this being the only thing that he had to change, it seems that biogas could be the one fuel source that could make a huge difference in the fight against the use of fossil fuels.
Biogas has many advantages. First it is renewable, there is always going to be waste, manure and the other things that can make this biogas, so the chances of running out are nonexistent. However, even with that being said, many people wonder if biogas could meet the need of the amount of fossil fuels that people use on a daily basis. This is something that is yet to be seen. Another advantage is that the biogas gives off only a fraction of the emissions that those vehicles that are powered by gasoline and diesel give off. Which does solve the problem of emissions in the world.
We should expect to see biogas becoming more mainstream as the technology advances and people start to really see how easy it would be to make the biogas and use it in cars.
